THE cleverfit STORY.
A STORY OF SUCCESS.
In 2004, a pilot business was launched in Munich, which laid the foundation for the concept that was to follow. After the successful proof of concept, Managing Director Alfred Enzensberger began to offer a franchising option, founding cleverfit GmbH in 2007.
Since then, the company has continued to offer premium fitness at discount rates from its headquarters in Landsberg am Lech, becoming one of Germany’s leading fitness chains. The group currently operates over 379 fitness centres across the country. The number of members showed continued growth over the following years; the business now has around 1 million members. This has made cleverfit the fitness brand with the largest number of locations in Germany. In early 2011, cleverfit opened its first studio outside of Germany.
A 2012 master franchise agreement in the Netherlands saw three locations open in that country. cleverfit is also present in Austria, with 34 studios in the country. Quality is cleverfit’s highest priority. The brand’s studios have had the quality of their services reviewed since 2010 by fitforfacts, an independent company, in order to continue to guarantee high-quality service in the future. An early highlight of this quality campaign was the company winning the Franchise System of the Year award from the German Franchise Association, or DFV, in May 2015.
In 2017, cleverfit opened its 300th studio in Germany, which was quickly followed by the first cleverfit in Switzerland opening its doors in Schaffhausen. Another 25 cleverfit locations are planned in Switzerland over the next five years.
In 2018 clever fit has been awarded as Growth Champion from the FOCUS magazine. 2020 the group currently operates almost 500 clubs and starts the international expansion in further countries including Italy, Czech Republic and Luxembourg.
